There are TWO ways to become an optician in Canada:

Graduate from an accredited Canadian optical program

Complete the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process

BOTH Canadian optical program graduates AND PLAR applicants must pass the National Optical Sciences Examination(s) to be eligible for registration as an optician in their province.
